New Album Best Foot Forward:

Album Review:

Omar Puente takes sizeably progressive steps on his latest eclectic longplayer, Best Foot Forward,an album dedicated to the memory of his late wife, Debbie Purdy, who continues to inspire and influence his work. Puente spoke with Kevin Le Gendre about spanning the distance between populism and abstraction while maintaining his identity amid a collision of global cultures - Jazzwise  ★★★★

"Play Violin the Cuban Way"
published by Jazzwise.
"I think this book can open the joy of Cuban
violin playing to many violinists of different backgrounds from all around the world.
Omar and Alex Wilson have produced a landmark book here; to my knowledge there is no other book remotely like this which opens up the world of Cuban violin playing, and there
are no better qualified people to have done this." -  Nigel Kennedy

Violinist Omar Puente’s album ‘Best Foot Forward’ (2016) represents the second stage of an international musical journery, and continues from where the debut release ‘From There To Here’ left off. This second continues to draw upon musical influence from around the globe and reflects a career living and working with musicans from around  the world. Rooted in Omar’s Afro-Cuban heritage, the project fuses musical experiences from Brazil, Africa, the Caribbean and Europe, with a deep understanding of Jazz. This rich mix produces an album of complex and infectious rhythms and original melodies performed by a multinational sextet, and an unusual combination of violin, trombone and an extended rhythm section. In performance, this produces an irresistible urge to join in and dance.
